Why I’m Running
I am running for the Eureka Union School District Board because of what it has meant to our family, and the community around us, since we moved into the district. We chose to live in this area specifically because of the quality of schools in the district and we have experienced firsthand just how special this district is, and I intend to keep it that way. My wife, Maureen, and I have three young children, all of which attend EUSD schools. Like every parent, I want them challenged academically, surrounded by great teachers, and learning in schools where they feel safe and supported. EUSD has earned a longstanding reputation for academic excellence; our job isn’t simply to preserve that reputation - it’s to continue to raise the bar. That will continue to promote a strong community where students and teachers both thrive in the classroom. I will ensure accountability in district decision-making and transparency around the financial wherewithal of the district.
I am the Head of Commercial Banking for a local community bank with over 20 years of experience in financial leadership. With that, I understand the importance of responsible decision-making, accountability, and long-term planning. My professional career has focused on evaluating risk, managing budgets, and making thoughtful decisions that balance today’s needs with tomorrow’s opportunities. I will bring that same disciplined approach to protecting taxpayer resources - every dollar EUSD spends represents a thoughtful decision about our students’ future. I believe that students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and challenged which happens with safe, well-maintained campuses, ensuring our facilities provide comfortable environments for students and teachers.
I will listen to parents, teachers, staff, and our community while focusing on what matters most: strong academics, fiscal responsibility, safe schools, and preparing every student for future success.
It would be an honor to earn your support and serve the students, families, and taxpayers of the Eureka Union School District.
About Steve
My wife, Maureen, and I are proud to call Granite Bay home, where we’re raising our three kids — our daughter (10) and twin boys (6). We’ve lived in the community for eight years, and like so many families, our days are filled with school, sports, work, homework, and everything that comes with raising a family.
I grew up in Redding, CA as one of four children, where I learned how families and close-knit communities go hand in hand. After high school, I graduated from Sacramento State with a B.S. in Finance. I later continued my education through Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington, completing its graduate-level Executive Leadership and Financial Management Program in 2016.
Northern California has always been home to me, and I feel fortunate to be raising my family in the community that shares many of the same attributes that I valued growing up.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, usually playing sports in the backyard or attending practices/games, being out on the water, golfing, or tackling projects around the house.
Being a husband and father is the most important part of my life. Raising three children has given me an even greater appreciation for the role our teachers, schools, coaches, neighbors, friends, and families play in shaping their lives. It has also shown me how strong schools and an engaged community work together to create a place where children and families thrive.
There are three seats open on the Eureka Union School Board this November. I’m proud to be running alongside current Board Members, Jeff Conklin and Matt Dahlstrom, who have demonstrated their commitment to Eureka’s students, families, teachers, and community. I look forward to the opportunity to bring my experience and perspective to the Board and working together to ensure EUSD continues to deliver exceptional schools for our students, families, and community.
